Description

ElectroSynth is a solution for systematic experimentation (DoE, high-throughput screening, process optimization, ML-guided experiments) in electrosynthesis, electrolysis, electrocatalysis, electrochemical deposition and dissolution, as well as corrosion, stability and degradation studies.

ElectroSynth combines:

  • A 10-fold multi-reactor: xelsius LabWorkstation
  • Single-compartment electrochemical cells for two- or three-electrode setups: ElectroSynth EChem Cell
  • An experiment software for experimental procedure and data management: XpertEChem

1. xelsius LabWorkstation

The xelsius LabWorkstation is a multi-reactor offering precise control of reaction conditions and uniformity across 10 reactor positions, combining reproducibility and high-throughput capabilities at the same time.

Key features:

  • Temperatures for cooling and heating from -20 °C to 150 °C using Peltier technology
  • Magnetic stirring rate from 400 rpm to 1500 rpm
  • Precise regulation of the actual reaction temperature using internal temperature probes and PID control
  • Batch sizes from 5 mL to 20 mL for each reactor position
  • Reactor operation through intuitive software on a touch UI

2. ElectroSynth EChem Cell

The ElectroSynth EChem Cell is a single-compartment cell for 2- or 3-electrode setups, dedicated to electrosynthesis.

Key features:

  • Variable electrode gap: d = 5.0 / 7.5 / 10.0 mm
  • Recommended electrode size: 70 x 10 x (3-1) mm
  • Gas-tight cell construction
  • Multi-functional 4-port cap with 1/8 inch and 1/16 inch feed-throughs
  • Integration of tubes, septa, probes and reference electrodes up to 3.2 mm diameter
  • Defined reaction temperatures
  • PTFE or glass vessel
  • Working volume up to 20 mL
  • Gold-coated contacting screws

3. ElectroSynth XpertEchem Software

The comprehensive experiment software ElectroSynth XpertEchem supports planning, reaction control and data management of 10 simultaneous experiments.

Key features:

  • Determination of experimental settings and reaction profiles, and control of experimental procedure
  • Visualization of experiment runs and key parameters, with live monitoring
  • Data acquisition, data export and transfer in Excel and CSV format

4. Reference Application

ElectroSynth was intensively tested and used by ESy-Labs (www.esy-labs.de, info@esy-labs.de). In their laboratory, two ElectroSynth setups are heavily employed for AI-guided optimization of electrochemical syntheses.
