This thermoelectric cooling/heating system provides active temperature regulation for Wattcrafts Pouch Cell Holders, combining precision control with practical design to enable reliable isothermal testing across a wide range of applications.
Unlike conventional thermal chambers that rely on convective air cooling, the Temperature Control Module uses conductive heat transfer through a Peltier element system. This direct contact approach provides superior temperature stability, eliminating the significant temperature drift commonly observed during pulse testing. The result is experimental data of higher quality and consistency, particularly valuable for model parameterisation and degradation studies where temperature precision directly impacts data validity.
The module serves multiple testing scenarios. For simulation and model development work, it maintains stable isothermal conditions superior to thermal chambers, enabling separation of electrical and thermal characterisation. For thermal management validation, it can replicate pack-level thermal control behaviour, allowing evaluation of cell response under realistic thermal constraints. When laboratory resources are limited, the module enables temperature-controlled testing of individual cells without monopolising expensive thermal chamber capacity, particularly beneficial for testing at multiple temperatures or cell formation cycles.
The compact design integrates a Peltier cooling element, efficient heat sink, and quiet fan operation suitable for laboratory environments. The module can be paired with the Temperature Sensor Module for continuous cell temperature measurements during testing.
